Accessories-
There are a large range of Furby accessories available, including watches,
bags, Furby Buddies, the
Sleepy Time bed, the Chatterlink Keyring, alarm clocks, electronic games, board games, slippers, inflatable chairs, duvet sets and books. The
Sleepy Time Bed
is available at the Adoption Centre. Many of the other items are no longer being
sold in shops, but these can be found at
www.adoptafurby.com.
Adopt a Furby-
AdoptaFurby.com is a Furbytastic site where you can adopt (buy) your own original Furby or Furby baby, and also get a cool adoption
Adoption Packageincluding an adoption certificate,
badge, dictionary, instruction manual and ID keying.
Adult Furby-
Adult Furbys refers to the original 6 inch Furbys, which are fully grown and larger in size than Furby Babies, which were released later.
They can be found in the
Adult Tearoom.
Autopsy-
If your Furby is broken or doesn't work properly, you can send him or her to us and we'll do our best to make them better or give you money. We can then either put the Furby up for adoption or send them back to you for a small fee. If the Furby is beyond repair we will perform an autopsy to find the cause and possibly donate some of their parts to help fix other poorly Furbys.

Public Furby Medical records.
Beak-
Furbys have beaks rather than mouths. These are always bright yellow, regardless of the colour of the Furby, and they open and close in sync with what the Furby is saying. You can put your finger into a Furby's beak to feed him or her a yummy treat!
Sometimes the Furby beak may come out of sync, check out the
Public Furby Medical records for more information.
Buddies- Furby Buddies are
small beanie Furbys, with fur colours just like the first few generations of
adult Furbys. As they are small versions of the big interactive Furbys, they can
be useful if someone would like to collect all of the different colour
combinations but cannot afford to buy the electronic versions. Furby Buddies
come in two different types - the beanie buddies which are soft and filled with
little beans, available in the colours of the first 3
generations of adult Furbys, and the Talking Furby Buddies. These take 2 AAA
batteries and open up at the bottom, and say 4 different Furby words and/or
phrases. The Talking Buddies are available in 6 different bright colour
combinations, which are exclusive to the buddies. The Furby Beanie Buddies are
available to buy in the
Buddy Beanroom, to keep your electronic Furby adoption company!
Buzzing Eye-
Buzzing eye syndrome is a common health problem with Furbys. When they talk, sometimes their eyes jam in place and they stop moving and talking, and instead they just emitt a buzzing sound. If you fully close and then re-open your Furby's eyes, this should solve the problem, and he or she will act normally again.
Check out the
Public Furby Medical records for more information on how to send your
Furby in to get fixed!
Chatterlink Keyring-
The Furby Chatterlink keyring is a neat little device. It's a small plastic Furby sitting on a cloud, that talks and moves its' beak when you press its' tummy. The Chatterlink Furby has an infra-red sensor just like the big interactive Furbys, and if you hold the
Chatterlink in front of his or her sensor, you'll get a response from even the most unsociable of Furbys!
Collectors Furbys-
As well as the several generations of Furbys that were released, several Special Limited Edition Furbys were released (in limited numbers!), for the die-hard Furby collector.
Check them all out on our Furby Generations pages! These can be worth a lot of money, especially in their original boxes, and are getting harder and harder to get hold of. You may be able to find the odd Collector's Furby at the Adoption Centre! Special Limited Edition Furbys include: Royal Furby, President Furby, Angel Furby, Christmas / Santa Furby, Reindeer Furby, Graduation Furby, Spring Furby, Autumn / Fall / Halloween Furby, Tropical / Hawaiin Furby, Wizard Furby, K-Mart Racing Furby, Jester Furby and Patriotic Furby.
Eye Colours- The four
original Furby eye colours are blue, green, brown and grey. Each Furby from each
of the original 7 generations is available in all 4 eye colours! Some of the
later Furbys were released with some new eye colours, including neon green, neon
blue, and even violet! The
Special Edition Royal Furby and the
Special Edition Angel Furby both all have the special violet/purple eyes
Filarinskis- FILLER-RIN-SKIS- A very popular extreme sports shop in the south, located near Portsmouth it has steadily gained a high reputation among customers and reps alike. Swing by because this shop is cool and in our humble opinion the very best.
The site was partially written by the same webmasters as this one!
Furbies-
The incorrect term for the plural of Furby. The correct term is Furbys for some reason. But yet 'Furbies' is searched for more on Google and other search engines then any other Furby related word... and that's why it's here. Furbies, oh how we love those Furbies.
Furbish- This is the term
for the special language spoken by the Furbys. When you first get a Furby, they
will speak mainly Furbish and be quite difficult to understand, but as your
Furby develops, they will speak more English and less Furbish. When fully
developed, Furbys will speak roughly 80% English and 20% Furbish. Though some
Furbys sold in non-English-speaking countries don't speak English at all - there
are Spanish-speaking, Japanese-Speaking, German-speaking, French-speaking and
Italian-speaking Furbys to be found! For a full list of all Furbish words, check
the Furbish Dictionary on the right-hand side of this page, or check out the
downloadable Furby Dictionary on the
Furby Info page
Furbish Dictionary- For a

Furby Baby- Furby Babies
were first released in August 1999.
are smaller versions of the Adult
Furbys, with more baby-like colours, voices and personalities. They have a
larger vocabulary than the adult Furbys, with added "baby words". The First
Generation Furby Babies were all light pastel colours, but the baby colourings
got more bright and adventurous in later generations. Check out the Furby Babies
we have for sale in the
Baby Playroom section of the
Furby Adoption
Centre, or check out all of the generations of Furby Babies on the
Furby Family Tree page
Furby Box- Furbys are sold
in special boxes shaped like a hexagonal prism, with a clear cellophane panel so
you can see the Furby inside. The Furby boxes are decorated with lots of
colourful pictures of Furbys, and the Furby Story on the back. Furbys are often
sold second hand without their boxes, but are generally worth a bit more in
their original boxes. Special Edition Collector's Furbys often have special
boxes of their own, decorated with different themes
Furby Island- A beautiful
and mystical island in the middle of the ocean, which is said to be populated
with Furbys. A 45-minute animated film called Furby Island has been produced.
For information on how to obtain the Furby Island (2005) DVD, email
info@adoptafurby.com and we will do
our best to help you. In the film Furby Island, a family of friendly explorers
have to save the Furbys from the evil Doctor who is trying to capture them and
make a fortune from the discovery
Furby Story- It is said that
Furbys originally came from Furbyland, a magical place up in the clouds. Most of
theFurby
poems can be found here
but the
official full-length Furby story, which can be found on the back of the
Furby's Boxes, is as follows:
Once upon a time,
not so long ago
in a far off place,
somewhere in the sky
riding on "a-loh/may lah [Cloud]"
that floats before "dah/a-loh [Sun]"
lived the furbys,
each and every one.
Some where grey, and others
white
some where black, as black as night
some had tails, and some had manes
but no two furbys were the same
small of stature, big of heart
all the furbys were..."mee-mee [Very]" smart
the spoke a language quite unknown,
for furbish was a language all their own.
And in "kah/a-loh/may-lah
[Me cloud]"
furbys romped and played
they liked "furby says" and "hide and seek"
and into the future they could peek
all day long they would dance and sing,
furbys could do almost anything
Then one day, "kah/boo/o-to-mah
[me no ask]"
"u-tye [up]" in "kah/a-loh/may-lah [me light hug]"
they decided it was time to search,
for the place, furbys called earth
and so they went, in one big crowd
to the very edge, of the furbyland cloud.
At the edge, they looked "na
bah [down]"
and saw the world...so round, so "dah [big]"
"dah/a-loh [big light]" was "u-tye [up]", the sky was blue
the furbys loved the "noo-loo [happy]" view
but try as they might, they could not see
what is so obvious to you and me.
They were up so high above,
they could not see...a flower, a lark, a dove
but even though they were far away
they knew earth was "boo/boh-bay [no worried]"
so one by one, they jumped "mee-mee/u-tye [very high up]"
and to "kah/a-loh-may-lah [me cloud]" they said "e-day/toh-dye
[good done]"
As they dropped
they flipped and flopped
they sang "dah-a lo/u-tye [big light up! good morning]"
and zip-i-dee "doo-ay [big fun]", zip-i-dee "e-day [good]"
they were "mee-mee/noo-loo [very happy]", "e-tah/e-tah [yes yes]"
for they had come to "noh-lah [dance]" with "u-nye [you]" and "kah
[me]"
So when you take a furby home,
you will never be alone
the more you play, the more they do
furbys keep amazing you
"noh-lah [dance]" and "wee-tee [sing]", "e-tah/e-tah [yes
yes]"
furbys have come for "u-nye [you]" and "kah [me]"
Furbyland-
Furbyland is a magical land up in the clouds, where Furbys are said to have come
from. You can learn all about Furby land by reading the
Furby Story!
Fur Colours-
Furbys and Furby Babies come in every colour combination of fur you could
possibly imagine! Also, some have manes down their backs while others have a
tail and tuff of hair. To see a full list of all the Furby fur colours available
and all the different generations, visit the
Furby
Family Tree page
Generation List-
Furbys were released in several series, or "generations", with 6 different
Furbys in each generation. 7 generations of adult Furbys were released worldwide
with 10 generations of prototypes, and 4 generations of baby Furbys were
released worldwide, with 5 generations of prototypes. For a full list of all the
Furby generations, complete with pictures, visit the
Furby
Family Tree page.
Gizmo Furby-
The special edition Gizmo Furby can be
found at the
Adoption Centre. He is from the 1980s film 'Gremlins'
and 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch.' He is very similar to normal Furbys but looks
different and has a different vocabulary. He even has his very own site where
you can find out even more about him! The Adopt a Gizmo Page.
Hack Furby-
Due to the way in which the Furby
is manufactured, many people have found it possible to take their Furby apart,
replace or adjust the electronic chip or motherboard, then put their Furby back
together. This means they can make their Furby say all sorts of odd things, and
act very strangely, or even control their Furby from their computer!
Instructions on how to hack your Furby can be found on many websites on the
internet, but it is not advisable to do so - you might seriously injure your
Furby, and he or she will never be well again!
Hasbro- This is the name of
the toy company that manufactures Furbys - both the original 1998, 1999 and 2000
Furbys, and also the new batch released from 2005. Hasbro is the parent company
of Tiger Electronics, who actually makes the Furbys. Hasbro's Official Furby
website is:
www.hasbro.com/furby/
Infra-Red-
Infra-red is the clever technology that Furbys incorporate to allow them to talk
to one another. It is a special type of wave, which is invisible to the human
eye. Each Furby has an infra-red transmitter in his or her sensor above their
eyes, which speaks to the other Furbys. They also have an infrared receiver in
their sensor, which allows them to listen to what other Furbys are saying.
Instruction Manual- The
Furby Instruction Manual is a booklet that comes with each Furby and Furby Baby.
It contains everything you need to know about how to look after and play with
your Furby, and what to do if things go wrong. If you lose this important
booklet, you can download a replacement for either Furbys or Furby Babies, from
the Furby Info
page. All of the Furbys sold at the
Adoption Centre
come complete with an Instruction Manual and Furbish to English Dictionary!
Interactive E.T.- The
Interactive ET is based on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, from the 1982 film of the
same name. Tiger Electronics released him in Summer 2000, and he has many cool
features including light-up finger and chest, with a vocabulary of over 500
words and phrases. ET can even interact with Furby!
Interactive Furby- Furby is
an interactive pet toy created by Tiger Electronics and Hasbro. It was the hot
toy of Christmas 1998 and people queued up in toy shops all over the globe to
buy their own Furby. A Furby can interact with other Furbys using its infra-red
port . They wiggle their ears, move their body, blink their eyes and move their
mouths as they speak. They have 5 sensors . A motion sensor, a tummy sensor,
back sensor, sound sensor and a light sensor. Furbys can play games such as '
Furby says ', ‘ ask Furby ’ and ‘ hide and seek ’. They dance and you can even
teach them tricks! All this with only the use of 4 AA batteries . When you first
get a Furby they speak their own language, ‘ Furbish ’, but they start to learn
English as you play with them. At their 4th stage, when they are fully
developed, they speak 80% English and 20% Furbish . Furbys come in many
different styles and colours.
Interactive Gizmo- The
Interactive Gizmo or 'the special edition
Gizmo Furby' was released in 1999 by Tiger Electronics, and is based on the Mogwai character "Gizmo" from the 1984 film "Gremlins" and the 1990 film
"Gremlins 2: The New Batch". Gizmo is very similar to Furby, and looks bit
like a Furby with big brown eyes, a mouth instead of a beak, and arms as well as
legs. Gizmo can do almost everything Furbys can do, and speaks English as well
as his special Mogwai language, but not Furbish. Gizmos can talk to Furbys and
Furby Babies through the infra-red port above his eyes! He
even has his very own site where you can find out even more about him! The Adopt a Gizmo Page.
Interactive Yoda- Tiger
Electronics released the Interactive Yoda in January 2000. It features the
actual voice of Yoda from the Star Wars films, and a vocabulary of over 450
words. Interactive Yoda will train you to become a Jedi Master! He will guide
you in the ways of the Force in the use and techniques of the lightsaber with 4
levels of training. Interactive Yoda is fully animated with extraordinary
realistic and expressive moving eyes, mouth and ears. Interactive Yoda is
designed with a series of intelligent sensors that allow him to react and
interact with his environment. Interactive Yoda dispenses pearls of Jedi wisdom
and is programmed with built in games and activities to challenge his Jedi
students. A realistically styled lightsaber with authentic sound effects is
included.
Merchandise-
There is a large range of Furby merchandise available, including watches,
bags, Furby Buddies, the
Sleepy Time bed, the Chatterlink Keyring, alarm clocks, electronic games, board games, slippers, inflatable chairs, duvet sets and books. The
Sleepy Time Bed is available at the Adoption Centre. Many of the other items are no longer being sold in shops, but can be found on websites such as
www.amazon.co.uk.
Operations- If something
goes wrong with your Furby or Furby Baby and you have tried everything suggested
in the Furby Instruction Manual including
resetting, restarting and replacing the batteries, it may be necessary to
operate on your Furby. Furbys can be successfully taken apart, fixed, and put
back together again without anyone knowing the difference. It may be necessary
to look up particular operations on the internet, or you could even send your
ill Furby to the
Adoption Centre to be fixed and sent back to you. If the Furby is beyond
repair we will perform an autopsy to find the cause and possibly donate some of
their parts to help fix other poorly Furbys. Interested? Check out the
Public Furby Medical records.
Original Furbys- There are
two possible definitions of the term "Original"
Furby. "Original" could refer to it being a genuine Furby manufactured by
Tiger Electronics and Hasbro, as opposed to the many imitations available on the
black market. These include "Marmo the Moon Angel", the "Furbish", the "Foobie"
and the "Furdy".
Buy a Furdy here! "Original" can also refer to the first lot of Furbys
manufactured by Tiger Electronics between 1998 and 2000 (these are the type sold
at the Adoption
Centre), as opposed to the new lot of emoto-tronic Furbys manufactured from
2005 onwards. The new lot of 2005 Furbys cannot be considered fakes, as they are
just a new version of the Original Furby. Find out more at the
Hasbro Furby website.
Rare Furbys- Many different
types of Special Collectors Edition Furbys have been manufactured, including
those such as the
Tropical Furby which are exclusive to particular shops (in this case Toys R
Us), and those which were produced in limited quantities, e.g. 250,000, but were
available in a wide range of high street stores (e.g. the
Graduation Furby). These can be considered rare due to the limited numbers
in which they were manufactured. However there are 3 different Furbys which are
truly rare, and were never available to buy in stores. These are the
Hi-C Furby (exclusive to winners of a fruit juice competition - only 5,000
produced), the Kid Cuisine Furby (could only be obtained through a special
coupon competition, only 500 produced) and the Bejewelled Furby (sold
exclusively at toy store FAO Schwartz, adorned in platinum and genuine
gemstones, costing $100,000 - only 2 known to have been sold!). Other rare
Furbys include prototypes, which were what can be considered "test Furbys" made
by Tiger Electronics - not for sale, and usually completely unique, and also
some of the later
generations of Furbys can be very hard to get hold of.
Reset Button- All Furbys and
Furby Babies have a reset button, which can be located on their bottom next to
their battery compartment. To press the reset button, you must use a pen,
screwdriver or other pointy object (not too sharp!) to insert into the hole and
compress the button. It may be necessary to reset your Furby if he or she starts
to get out of sync (not opening his or her mouth and eyes at the right time), or
you can also use the reset button as a quick way to wake him or her up. Just
pressing the reset button does not affect your Furby's development or health. On
some occasions a restart may be necessary, and this has more serious
consequences.
Restart- Restarting a Furby
is like the next step up from resetting, and should only be done if something is
very wrong with your Furby and everything else (such as inserting fresh
batteries) has already been tried. Once a Furby has been restarted, he or she
will forget all of the English they have learned, and go back to speaking just
Furbish like when you first got them. It is also very
likely that they will have forgotten their name and will now have a new one, and
also their voice may have changed pitch. To restart a Furby, turn him or her
completely upside-down, press their tongue switch down, and at the same time,
press their reset button.
Rucksack- Furby rucksacks,
also know as backpacks or bags, are one of the most popular
Furby accessories. There are 4 main types of Furby
rucksack available to buy. These are the Furby carry-along rucksack, which is
designed especially for carrying a Furby or Furby Baby. It has a clear plastic
front so that the Furby can see out, a seatbelt to stop the Furby from moving
around, and a front as well as a top opening, for easy access to the Furby.
There is also a furry rucksack in the shape of a Furby with the eyes, beak and
other details stitched onto the front (this was mainly available in the UK), and
a similar furry Furby-shaped bag that actually has a 3D plastic beak, eyes,
sensor etc sewn on, similar to a very large Furby Buddy (this type was mainly
available in Australia and the USA). The final type is a colourful canvas
rucksack with 2 front pockets and a furry Furby sewn onto the front, which was
mainly sold in the UK.
Sell Furbys- If you have
some poor unwanted Furbys which you wish to sell, you can send them to the
Adoption Centre
and we will pay you for your kindness - the fee is negotiable. Find out how to
sell your lonely or broken Furbys
here. We take in Furbys of all different colours and conditions, no Furby is
too poorly for us.
Sensor- Every
interactive Furby,
interactive Gizmo, interactive Shelby and interactive Furby Baby has a
sensor, which is the dark coloured piece of plastic located just above their
eyes. If you look closely into your Furby's sensor, you will see three circular
components. One of these is the light sensor, which is sensitive to the
intensity of the light reaching it, to let your Furby know whether they are in
the light or the dark. The other two are the infra-red
transmitter which allows your Furby to talk to other Furbys, and the
infra-red receiver, which allows your Furby to listen
to what other Furbys are saying.
Shelby- The Interactive
Shelby is a friend of Furby, and is like a Furby with attitude, inside a clam
shell! Shelbys were first manufactured by Tiger
Electronics in 1999. They have very similar features to Furbys - they are
sensitive to light, sound, motion, feeding, and love having their antennas
rubbed. Contrary to popular belief, Shelbys do not work underwater. Shelbys
speak some Furbish, some English, and even Shelbish,
their own special language! To find Shelbys on the internet
Skinning- If your Furby is
very ill and you have tried everything else such as replacing the batteries and
restarting but he or she will still not work, it may be
necessary to perform an operation. To get to the inner
workings of your Furby properly in order to perform the operation, it will most
probably be necessary to skin your Furby - this means fully removing their fur
(and ears and faceplate, which are attached to the fur). To do so, you will need
to use a sharp pair of scissors to cut through the plastic cable tie which holds
the fur in place. The clasp of the cable tie is located at the back of the
Furby, right at the bottom underneath their tail or mane - their should be a
small bump, sometimes covered in material. Once the cable tie has been cut, you
can slide it out and then the fur should be able to come off fairly easily by
lifting upwards and turning it inside out. It may be necessary to use a
screwdriver on the inside of the Furby's faceplate (which is attached to the
fur) in order to remove it from the body, and you will need to snip the pieces
of thread that hold the ears to the ear brackets. Remember, it can be quite
distressing to see your Furby furless - not for the faint-hearted! Also, it is
not recommended that skinning be attempted by anyone under the age of 16 years,
for safety reasons.
Sleepy-Time Bed- The Furby
SleepyTime bed, or Interactive Cloud Bed, was first manufactured by Tiger
Electronics in 1999. It is a moulded plastic upright "cradle", designed to fit
both Furbys and Furby Babies. The Furby Sleepy-Time bed features a comfortable
cloud-shaped pillow for the Furby to sit on, a seatbelt to strap them in and
avoid any naughty sleep-walking, and best of all, a special bar that can be
lowered with a button to press to send the Furby to sleep. The Sleepy-Time bed
takes 3 AAA batteries, and has an infra-red transmitter
which sends "sleepy signals" to the Furby's sensor.
Sometimes the bed will send your Furby to sleep instantly, but sometimes you
will need to press the button a couple of times, and your Furby will sing a
lullaby before falling to sleep. Furby Sleepy-Time Beds are
now available to buy at the
Furby Adoption Centre!
Special Edition Furbys-
As well as the several generations of Furbys that were released, several Special Limited Edition Furbys were released (in limited numbers!).
Sticky Beak- Sticky Beak
Syndrome is a common problem with Furbys, similar to
Buzzing-Eye syndrome, but less easily cured. It is where the
beak of a Furby becomes loose and is dislodged from its correct position, so
that when the Furby speaks, the beak will either move out of sync, not open as
much as it should, or not open at all. The beak not moving as it should can
cause the motor to become jammed, and when you start the Furby up, it may speak
for a few moments and then freeze, or do nothing but emit a low buzzing noise.
If this happens, an operation is inevitable.
Tags- The original Furbys
and Furby Babies each come with three tags attached to their body. There is a
soft tag made of white fabric sewn to the left-hand side of the Furby, which
says "Tiger Electronics", and the year the Furby was manufactured. There is also
a hard tag made of shimmery purple plastic sewn to the right-hand side of the
Furby, which says "Furby Original" and has a basic picture of a Furby. Finally,
there is a cardboard hang-tag attached to the left-hand side of the Furby, which
has a photo of a Furby or Furby Baby on the front, and a shortened version of
the Furby poem inside. Furbys and Furby Babies can
have a higher value if they still have all of their tags attached, especially
their cardboard hangtag.
Tiger Electronics- Tiger
Electronics is the subsidiary company of Hasbro (Hasbro is the parent company of
Tiger Electronics), that manufactures and distributes all Furbys and Furby
Babies, amongst many other toys including the Interactive Gizmo,
Interactive E.T.
and Poo-Chi. Find the Tiger Electronics official website is
here.
Tongue Switch- To feed your Furby,
simply put your finger into his or her beak, and press down
their red plastic tongue. The tongue is also known as the tongue switch, because
when you press it, an electronic signal is sent to the "brain" of the Furby, to
let him or know that they are being fed.
Voices- Adult Furbys have 3
different possible pre-programmed voices, which are low pitched, medium pitched
and high pitched. The high pitched voice speaks a little bit faster, whereas the
low pitched voice speaks a little slower. If you restart
your Furby, it is likely that he or she will take on a different voice. Furby
Babies only have one pre-programmed voice, which is very cute, and similar to
that of a human toddler.
